India’s highest sports honour — Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Khel Ratna (2021), awarded by the Government of India.
One of the few coaches in India certified to coach, officiate, and organise at FIBA international level simultaneously.
Pioneer of the 3x3 format in Delhi — organised grassroots 3x3 tournaments before the format became mainstream in India.

The Coach
Ishwar Bhati’s professional career in sports began in 2006 at St. Mary’s Public School and Delhi Public School, Vasant Kunj — two years before he joined ITL Public School, Dwarka, where he has now taught Physical Education for 18 consecutive years. The court at ITL is not just where he works; it is where IB Sports Academy was founded in 2010 and where it still trains today.
Over 20 years in sport, one school, one court. That continuity is rare anywhere. In Delhi, it is unique. He built the academy not as a business, but as an answer to a question he saw every day: what happens to the talented kid after school PE ends?
While basketball is his core expertise, his programme spans the full spectrum of school sport. He has organised Zonal Tournaments in Basketball, Football, and Cricket for the Directorate of Education, overseeing competitions across 50+ Delhi schools. He coordinated India’s first international Wheelchair Cricket match between India and Bangladesh, and has been an active organiser of Khelo India events. IB Sports is not a basketball academy. It is a sports institution.

The Impact
His athletes have represented India internationally, earned US college scholarships, won National medals, and competed at the Special Olympics World Cup. Three won gold at the Asian Continental Games 2017 in Thailand U-19, against the best in Asia. Students have competed on 4 continents.
He holds a Master’s in Physical Education Teaching and Coaching from CCS University. He is a FIBA Licensed Table Official (2024–2028) — a credential mandatory for FIBA Level 1 competitions, and has served as a certified National Referee with the Basketball Federation of India for over 14 years. He is also a CBSE-appointed Observer for Basketball Cluster-12, an SGFI official, and a PEFI-recognised Best Coach.
Few individuals in Indian sport coach, officiate, and build institutions simultaneously — at national and international level. He does all three, at the same court, every week.
He doesn’t just produce athletes.
He produces people who happen to be exceptional athletes.
Credentials & Expertise
These are not titles on a wall. Each one represents a role he actively holds.
One of the few individuals in Delhi cleared for FIBA Level 1 international competition officiating. A mandatory credential that most coaches in India never qualify for.
Certified National Basketball Referee with the Basketball Federation of India since 2012. Still active — which means he coaches the same students he referees at national tournaments.
Appointed by the CBSE Board as an Expert Observer. He doesn't just participate — he ensures the technical standards, officiating quality, and conduct of the entire cluster meet national requirements.
Certified FIBA 3x3 Tournament Organiser. Pioneer of the 3x3 format in the Delhi school sports circuit, introducing international-standard gameplay at grassroots level before it became mainstream in India.
Coordinated India's first international Wheelchair Cricket match between India and Bangladesh. This reflects his broader mission: sport is a tool for inclusion, reaching far beyond the basketball court.
Master's degree in Physical Education Teaching & Coaching. The academic foundation beneath every drill design, session structure, and athlete development decision he makes.
The Journey
Starts coaching at St. Mary’s Public School and Delhi Public School, Vasant Kunj. The first steps of a career that would span 20 years.
Joins ITL Public School, Dwarka as a Physical Education teacher. The court he walks onto becomes the permanent address of everything that follows.
Launches the academy on the ITL court — a structured commitment to every talented student who needed more than school PE could offer.
Certified as a Basketball Referee with the Basketball Federation of India. Begins a parallel officiating career that now spans 14+ years — rare for an active head coach.
Students win three U-19 gold medals at the Asian Continental Games, Thailand. The same year, named Best Coach by the Reliance Foundation Jr. NBA Programme — the honour came with an exclusive coaching experience in Shanghai, China.
Selected by NBA India as one of 8 coaches nationally to attend the NBA China Games 2018. Attended NBA Fan Day in Shanghai, watched games in Shanghai and Shenzhen, and trained alongside NBA coaching staff including Brett Brown and Rick Carlisle.
Receives the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Khel Ratna — the Government of India’s highest sports honour. Also awarded Best Preceptor by the Directorate of Education: recognised as an educator, not just a coach.
When talent showed up without the means to train, the Foundation became the answer. Free coaching, equipment, and structured access for underprivileged youth, Special Olympics athletes, and orphanage children. Same court. Same coach. No fees.
The Academy’s official social impact arm because Talent is Universal. Opportunity is Not.
Cleared for FIBA Table Officials Licensing (2024–2028) — mandatory for Level 1 international competitions. Receives the Dr. Ajmer Singh Award from the Physical Education Foundation of India.
IB Sports Academy collaborated with Aamir Khan’s production for Sitaare Zameen Par. Coach Ishwar Bhati appears in the film’s opening scenes as the Karnataka team’s coach. IB’s youth athletes and coaching philosophy were brought to set for authenticity. Culminated in a session between Coach IB, his athletes, and Aamir Khan.
Appointed Head Coach, Delhi Boys — 40th Youth National Basketball Championship. Delhi finishes 4th nationally. The academy produces a national-level team, not just individual standouts.
Transitioning the academy into a multi-sport ecosystem. The goal: An international-standard indoor facility in Delhi that serves as the blueprint for grassroots excellence nationwide.

Digital Court
Beyond the physical court, we’ve built a global classroom. From elite technical drills to raw student progress and major tournament highlights, the IB Sports Academy YouTube channel is your 24/7 access to professional basketball.
Driven by Ishwar Bhati’s expertise as a National Coach, this channel has evolved from a technical breakdown of elite layup mechanics into a viral benchmark, crossing 1.07 Lakh+ views and counting. This isn’t just a video, it’s a digital masterclass that captured a massive surge in Indian basketball interest.
Our channel has evolved into a 360° basketball ecosystem, bringing you everything from Coach IB’s professional drills and student transformations to high-octane tournament coverage. We are architecting the digital blueprint for the next generation of Indian ballers.
Coaching Philosophy
Innovative, out-of-the-box sessions designed to build basketball IQ, not just physical skill.
Every child who walks onto our court deserves a facility that matches their ambition and a coach who believes in their potential before they do.
Results are not chased, they are built. The drills, the discipline, the daily showing up: that is what produces outcomes.
A court where athletes fear mistakes is a court where they stop developing. The environment is high-standard yet safe.
No two athletes develop identically. Our programme adapts to the player’s unique pace and style, not the other way around.
Theory sessions run alongside practice. Athletes learn the logic behind every move, building decision-making under pressure.
Basketball is the medium, the person is the outcome. We focus on building the resilience and leadership needed off the court.
The Road Ahead
Twenty years built the foundation, the credibility, and the proof of concept. What comes next is bigger — a full multi-sport ecosystem designed for the next generation of Indian athletes.
The primary milestone: a permanent, weather-proof indoor facility — international standard, built for year-round training. No more pausing for Delhi summers or monsoons. The court never closes.
Basketball was the beginning. The vision is a campus where Football, Badminton, Cricket, and Athletics are coached to the same standard — structured programmes, qualified coaches, competitive pathways for every sport.
A dedicated foundation programme for athletes aged 5–10, built around Fundamental Movement Skills — agility, coordination, spatial awareness. Not sport-specific training. Building athletes who will excel in any discipline they eventually choose.
Formalising what has worked for 20 years into a transferable system. A certification programme using BFI, FIBA, and CBSE standards to train coaches who carry the IB methodology to other schools, cities, and states across India.
